New design!

Most of the MT migration is complete. The new design is completely based on CSS. It still has some rough edges, but I’m happy with it.

It works pretty well in Lynx. So, if you are stuck with Netscape 4, try Lynx instead Sorry, I didn’t want to keep supporting older browsers.

• The template was made from the ground up - so, the default MT stylesheets won’t work anymore. That’s ok!
• The choose style javascript is gone. It will probably resurface once I finish fixing up the current style sheet.
• No stupid designer tricks like spacer images, tables etc. The only images in the template are the powered by images for MT and WebtrendsLive.
• The pages validate as XHTML 1.0, 99%. The missing part is the WebtrendsLive logging javascript. I’m not sure what to do about that. I want to do logging, but that javascript is the only thing that breaks XHTML validation.
• Here onwards, I’ll use only HTML encoded postings rather than relying on the Convert line breaks feature of MT.

Todo list

• Enhance daily and monthly archives to show main entry text for the first few entries.
• Need to make a stylesheet for printing.
• Need to fix the stylesheet for pages (archives, calendars etc.) that don’t need a right side bar.
• Due to changes in archival strategy, some internal links must be broken. Hunt them down and fix those.
• Add all recommendations from Dive Into Accessibility.
• Make the same templates available for searching.
• If the right side bar has longer content than the main content, the design is ugly. CSS 2 browsers get a mini fix by means of min-height property. I need to fix that by re-arranging the layout.
• Convert rest of the site to the new design.
• Make a short how-to document with a downloadable archive of templates.

1. It is my personal opinion, but i thought your last layout was better, i had even praised it http://weblog.xlle.com/archives/000045.htm .. usability was optimum and along with good looks too.

   MT is a gr8 tool, but i think you really can make better use of it using your own layouts.
