Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Gun fire has my ears still ringing.

Saw "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" today. Like Desperado, this movie is nothing but action. I still need to see the first one in this series, El Mariachi, which was reportedly made with just $7000.

Compared to Desperado, this one is gorier. If you don’t like seeing empty eye sockets, be warned. Mexicans in this movie like to do bad stuff to others' eyes.

Salma Hayek’s fans are going to be disappointed. She is there only for 10% of the time. Eva Mendes fills in for remainder of the movie.

Antonio Banderas is charming as usual. But, it is Johnny Depp who steals the show with his terrific acting - I’m surprised how his acting can stand out - even in this movie, where there nothing other than rampant shooting.

Trailers at Apple.com.

Contrary to usual experience, the movie hall was actually a good one - big screen, good digital surround sound. Usually, the movie halls in Washington DC area suck - they are small, uncomfortable and have terrible sound and lighting. These are like matchboxes when compared to good movie halls in Kerala or Chennai.

  1. Am planning to catch this show when it hits the screens here. Like you, I too have to catch the first El Mariachi.
