One year at the new job

On this April fool’s day, I celebrate my first anniversary at The Nature Conservancy. It has been an eventful year and it continues to be eventful. Looking back, the last year went too fast.

Motto for the next year: "Chance favors the prepared mind". Not very original, is it not?

Here’s how I’ll summarize last year:

• + Completed several projects.
• + Improved skill sets in MS Project, Python, Rebol, CSS/">CSS, XHTML, XML-RPC and Zope.
• + Great organization.
• + Committed people.
• - Didn’t get as much as I’d have expected to work in Oracle
• - Very little UNIX work as opposed to Windows NT. Not something I like or look forward to. I’m getting out of touch with shell scripting now!
• - Somewhat missing the competition and professionalism - focusing more on issues, less on people or behaviour - from my previous employers

Personal goals for next year:

• Dig deep into Oracle before they come out with v10i!
• Relearn Oracle Designer.
• Learn more Python.
• May be, just may be, see what is the big deal about .Net.
• Follow OPML as it comes along.
