Jatrix and Hackorama

This one will make sense only to Keralites.

Got an email from Kishan Thomas of Hackorama. I used to visit his site for Jatrix - JAyan’s TRICK’s. “Is it a plane, is it a bird, is it Rajnikant, is it Stallone? No its Jayan!, dramatic seventies music score in the background, cut into the scene where Jayan flexes his muscles , to bow in front of the local temple. Kavilamme shakthi tharoooooo... Yes its classic Jayan , back with a vengeance ! ”

Anyway, Kishan’s site has lot more. He has neat notes on different technologies. That was my intention when I started techbits section, but I’ve not been updating it as much as I want. I think I’ll use blog for that.

I used to be a big fan of Jayan till I was 5 or 6. I vividly remember sleeping in the theater and asking my parents to wake me up when Jayan started fighting. There was one movie in which he played two roles and it bothered me for weeks how a Jayan dressed in red shirt and bellbottoms can fight another Jayan dressed in yellow. It couldn’t have been using a mirror, because all the mirrors I’ve seen reproduce original colors :-) And big question - I think the red Jayan won - But how could he? Isn’t the yellow Jayan just as strong as the red one? As you could imagine, this confusion quickly became the central point of ridicule by my uncles who were pretty young at the time :-D

Till I was 3, I used to live in Perambra, a small town near Kozhikode. Then my parents relocated to Palakkad and with that our movie going went down quite a bit. My little Tamil Brahmin friends used to argue with me that Rajnikant will easily beat Jayan. No way, Jayan will make mince meat out of all the kant’s put together! He might’ve had some difficulties against MGR, because MGR seemed to be very experienced with the sword - also, if he can walk, dance and fight in those bent shoes, he must have been something.

I don’t know if it is a bad thing to have the fantasies I had at age 3, now coming back again at age 30! I think it is ok, because I’ve always tried to find happiness in small things. My wife and most of my family are also like that. It certainly makes me less ambitious according to current standards, but keeps me happy.

Note to film makers. Make sure you guys make sensible things when you try adding special effects. These things can drive little kids nuts!
