Now that there is an attempt at standardization of outline representation, I’d like to see more software for this. I love working with outlines, whether it is project planning or writing code or noting down thoughts (well, this blog doesn’t have outlines for entries most of the time because it is supposed to be random!).

TreePad is the best that is out there for Windows - I still don’t know if the PLUS version saves things in XML too. If it does, I’ll spend $27.95 for it. TreeLine is a PyQT application, that is available for both Windows and Linux. Think is a GTK application for Linux. Outliners.com contains fairly outdated information.

  1. I was specifically looking for outliner software, when I came across your site. I have an old 386 Packard Bell that was top of the line when I bought it. It is most obsolete; however, I had a wonderful software package called GrandView, which was made by Symantec. It fell victim to the rapid change in computers. Now, I can't integrate any of the material without cumbersome computer acrobatics. Do you know of any outliner packages that operate in a similar manner to GrandView? I would love to find out. Thanks
