Does Murali throw?

murali in actionControversies about Muttiah Muralitharan’s action are back again!

As far as I’m concerned, Murali is a great bowler and certainly a consistent match winner. However, in any angle, his arm is bend. That makes it illegal (or unfair) in my view. Laws of Cricket, like all laws, are up for interpretation by different parties. But these are there to ensure a fair and level playing field.

It is unfortunate that the governing bodies don’t have the will power to enforce these laws. To be fair, I think Brett Lee and Manoj Prabhakar also has/had suspicious bowling actions.

  1. Hmmm... I watched India vs. SL match in World Cup 2003. If Murali can't straighten his arm, how does it gets perfectly straight when he throws in from the out-field?

Also, his action was noticeably different for some deliveries.

  2. I do not think anyone who accucess Murali's action havent test it scientifically. Technology is very developed these days. Why don't the big wigs of ICC and the game resolve this problem for ever. If he has a deformity, well...everyone should have equal oppertunity. We cant say that blind people should not walk if they can.

  3. Hi guys Look this is exactly what I think.
Daryl Foster : Interviewed by Rediff

"I am not specifically interested what Bishen Bedi said. I have great respect for the man. But he is not in possession of the evidence that we see. I would love Bishen Bedi to come over and we can show exactly what's been done and then he perhaps wouldn't be so critical of Muralitharan. Sounds like a little bit of jealousy on Bishen Bedi's part to me"

  4. #2 - precisely, every one should've equal opportunity. Because of a bend arm, he gets an unfair advantage by being able to bowl from the back of the palm and the law doesn't do anything about it. As far as I know, it is OK to keep a bend arm if during delivery, as long as the angle of bend doesn't change.

The evidence they've found is that Murali can't straighten (in other words, change the angle) his arm. From what I saw on TV, he can do that when he throws (quite forcefully) after fielding in the out-field. So, isn't it possible for him to change the angle during delivery?

He is a gentleman sportsman who may not do that. But, the point is, while bowling, he is thinking about getting the wicket and not about keeping his arm properly angled.

  5. I don't think Muralitharan should be allowed to play International Cricket because he is breaking the law. I personally don't have any problem with him, but he is taking advantage of his action. As Australia said, the whole thing needs to be analysed. Compare him with other bowlers, and you should see the difference why he is called "Chucker"? It's a shame! He got so far in the International game. He should be better off playing on streets.
