Intepreter of Maladies

Great reminder of how good fiction and short stories can be.

Ever since I got wise and got rid of the idiot box, I have been slowly getting back to reading. Over the weekend, I read “Interpreter of Maladies” by Jhumpa Lahiri.

Absolutely entertaining.

Cover

All the stories are very simple. Simple things that happen to ordinary people. There is no suspense, drama or action. Yet, Ms. Lahiri fascinates without using complicated prose or lengthy dialogue.

If you are a non-resident Indian, or has been one, read this book. I would summarize her writing as:

  1. Simple
  2. Smooth
  1. Strange, though I did like the book, I never tought it was good enough for the high acclodes it got. Just like God of small things.

Maybe it is time to re-read it.
