Water!

What the world needed. Another new technology based on XML to offer web services.

Water™ is a new all-purpose Web programming language that delivers both power and simplicity.”

Intrigued? Read startup writes a new language to replace Java and .Net .

The site claims that Water is:

Last I checked, Vodka + Ginger Ale and Cognac + Tender Coconut Juice were the only ones that could make these claims.

Anyway, the IDE I downloaded from their site is a Java Web Start application. I still can’t digest the idea about XML based programming languages. And every month, there is a new XML based "new" technology. Does any programmer out there really like typing < and >? 2 years typing in HTML has given me carpal tunnel. If all these MLs are going to be the rage in the future, I’m going to get into the business of making some XML editing tools; Or, I will dust up my grandfather’s old Indian remedies notebook and sell some lotions (called "kuzhambu", in Malayalam) to help all these programmers :-)

I believe in web services. But, I’m seriously beginning to think that in future, people who are savvy enough to use those might be a very mobile group that might not have connectivity always.
