Incubating employee's ideas

One company gets it right to foster innovation from the ground up.

Wipro to incubate employees' ideas

In a bid to boost technology innovation in the company and allow employees to participate in high level decision-making, Wipro has started incubating ideas generated by its employees.

The software major will provide necessary funding and provide the initial hand-holding to the employees to roll out the project.

I used to work for Wipro’s main competitor and I wonder if Wipro is pulling up ahead. This is an idea that is really great one that managers have a difficult time coping with.

In any company, innovation must truly come from the ground up. Problem is that not many career managers are willing to encourage this? Many managers tend to see innovation as something that they should get most credit for. May be because of insecurity. The best way to stop innovation is by giving credit to non-participants. The second way is to forcefully add impassionate people to the innovating team.

Managers should concentrate on providing decisions, prioritization and resource allocation and let growth foster from below. Their job is to make sure all innovation fits into the big picture, while leaving the ownership to the innovator.
