A Tribute to Indian Armed Forces

For keeping such a difficult experiment of "diversity in unity", true to its spirit.

In June, I had posted an entry about Indian Special Forces winning a competition. This morning I got a comment from a soldier about that, which really made me feel great. I’m posting my reply to him and my thoughts here as my way of showing how deeply indebted I’m to that one institution in India that people still believe in.

Note: I’m not a supporter for war, any war, covert or overt. It is my opinion that war is just the ugly effect of incompetent politics and diplomacy. And the fact that human beings, like ants, can’t compromise easily. Offensive action becomes necessary at times because of that.

For me personally, there is no better way to start a holiday morning than by feeling proud about being an Indian. I’m proud of my heritage - even with all those things that would be considered misgivings by many in the western world and by many of my countrymen - normally, but these kind of news makes it extra special.

It is my fondest wish that our civilian leaders (past and present) take a leaf out of our armed forces to really understand the concept of "unity in diversity".Yes, there will be recurring sentiments like "I’m a North Indian, you are a Madrasi" and vice versa. But, in the face of a common goal of keeping our borders intact, that doesn’t seem to rise beyond the harmless tea time talk.

May be we should alter our constitution so that whenever a new government takes office - national or state, they come up with a 5 year set of goals and yearly milestones that they get signed off by the President or the Governor. Let their performance be measured by how well they can achieve their planning; rather than the number of cities and universities they were able to rename! My belief is that the lack of common goals and discipline is hurting the progress of our democracy more than anything else.

I think it is getting better now that no party can be certain of absolute majority.

To all our soldiers, please keep up the great job of keeping the boundaries of our diverse nation intact, even with hostile states all around. If there is one thing that consistently make us citizens proud in these 55 years of independence, it is our armed forces.

  1. BY CHANCE I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO READ YOUR POSTING AND REPLY OF MAJ. A. SHARMA. IT WAS RELIEVING TO FIND THAT STILL THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEIR COUNTRY AND RESPECT THE FORCES. THE ENTIRE FORCES CANNOT BE BLAMED IF A FEW TOP OFFICIALS ARE CORRUPT. I AM SURE THAT INDIA IS SURVIVING BECAUSE OF HONESTY AND LOYALTY OF MILLIONS OF OUR FORCES. ALL WE CAN WISH THAT SOME DAY FORCES CAN TAKE REIN OF COUNTRY IN THEIR HANDS TO SAVE HER. BEST OF LUCK.

  2. The Indian Army is the best in the world, while the Air Force is one of the best. Of course, we are diverse, and the greater thing is, that we have always united when there is a major danger. Today, we face a danger that could wipe us out. It comes from America, Pakistan and China. The Armed Forces are doing a great job by being united. Maybe the politicians should also take that example.
There is no place for VHP and Jaish-e-Muhammad when we are threatened like this.

  3. Our Jawans
The most daunting chaps with the grit, they're the ones who have the courage to face challenges and have since proved. Name the mission and it's done.

Honour them at various forums, meet them and praise their deeds, write to them letters of encouragement, send cards of victory and achievement, communicate with their families by sharing legends conveying hope and prosperity. Be aware of the success achieved by them. They won because they dared to do it. We Indians are thankful to be served by such prestigious Forces.
