Slashdot story: Apparently, Flash 6 can capture data from your PC’s mic and camera.

I really think this is a violation of privacy, the way it is implemented. It really should be in such a way that it is turned off for all sites by default and then any and every site that needs to use this feature should pop up a dialog (with default to "No") explaining why they need to listen/view us.

Some applications I can think of include monitoring patients, homes, children and sleeping employees over the web.

Disclaimer: I’ve not programmed a single line using any version of Flash, so I’m not entirely qualified to talk about implementation. I do know that I hate sites wasting my time showing silly Flash animation.

Update: Flash Blog says that the Slashdot story is FUD. Apparently, Flash indeed behaves on a per-site-permission basis.
